Case Study: Balcony Waterproofing Success with Liquiflex Pro
Background
For several years, the building had been experiencing persistent balcony waterproofing issues, with recurring leaks causing frustration for the client and occupants. Approximately a year ago, a trial balcony was specified with Liquiflex Pro, a liquid-applied waterproofing system known for its seamless application and proven durability.
The result of that initial trial was a completely watertight balcony, providing reassurance that Liquiflex Pro could deliver a long-term solution. However, instead of rolling out the system across all balconies, the client decided to trial an alternative product on other areas. Unfortunately, six months later, the leak problems persisted and the alternative solution failed to provide the protection required.
At this stage, Rubberseal were invited back to site to carry out a detailed roof and balcony survey and recommend a proven waterproofing solution that could permanently resolve the ongoing issues.
The Challenge
The client’s key requirements were clear:
A reliable, long-term balcony waterproofing system that would stop leaks permanently
A solution capable of creating watertight outlets integrated into the full wall construction
A product that could be applied efficiently to minimise disruption to residents
A standardised waterproofing approach that could be rolled out across multiple balconies for future works
The challenge was not only to resolve the immediate leaks but to demonstrate a system that would stand the test of time and ensure consistent results across the whole building.
The Solution
Following the survey, Liquiflex Pro was once again specified as the most suitable system. With its cold-applied, seamless technology, Liquiflex Pro creates a durable, elastomeric membrane that fully encapsulates tricky details such as outlets, upstands, and wall junctions.
Supplied by Pudlo, Liquiflex Pro was applied to the leaking balconies, reinstating full waterproof integrity. As a liquid-applied roofing and waterproofing system, it bonded directly to the existing substrate, eliminating joints, seams, and potential weak points.
Its fast curing time meant the balconies were made rainproof quickly, and its odourless, solvent-free composition ensured that works were carried out safely in an occupied residential environment without disruption.
Results
The project was a complete success. The Liquiflex Pro installation delivered leak-free balconies and provided the client with confidence in a long-term waterproofing solution. In direct comparison, the alternative system trialled previously had failed to stop the leaks even after six months, highlighting the superior performance of Liquiflex Pro.
Thanks to the proven reliability and consistent results, the client has now committed to a phased programme of works, rolling out Liquiflex Pro across the building. Two balconies at a time will be refurbished, with Liquiflex Pro now set as their preferred waterproofing system for all balcony projects.
