Product : Liquiflex Pro
Rubberseal is proud to have supported a truly unique and technically demanding project—the British Antarctic Research Station, in partnership with principal contractor BAM Nuttall. Located in one of the most extreme environments on the planet, this high-profile scheme required a waterproofing solution that could endure sub-zero temperatures, intense UV exposure, and relentless high winds. Rubberseal’s Liquiflex Pro was selected as the ideal system for the job.
Project Challenges: Remote Location and Harsh Climate
Working in Antarctica presents a range of challenges, from the logistical hurdles of transporting materials to the necessity of using products that can cope with extreme weather conditions. The project involved waterproofing highly detailed junctions, terminations, and interfaces within the roof build-up of the research station, where precision and long-term performance were vital.
Traditional membrane systems were not suitable due to their reliance on hot works and rigid formats, both of which are impractical and potentially hazardous in such a sensitive and remote setting.
The Solution: Liquiflex Pro Cold-Applied Waterproofing
Liquiflex Pro was specified and supplied by Rubberseal for its combination of durability, flexibility, and safety. As a cold-applied, fully reinforced liquid waterproofing membrane, Liquiflex Pro is ideally suited for detailed work in extreme environments.
Key features that made Liquiflex Pro the preferred choice:
- Cold-applied, flame-free system – Ensuring safe installation in a highly sensitive environment
- Fully reinforced and crack-bridging – Offers strength and long-term performance
- UV- and weather-resistant – Capable of withstanding the harshest global climates
- Colour matched to RAL specification – Rubberseal custom-matched the product to the project’s exact RAL colour requirements, delivering a consistent and visually cohesive finish
- Excellent adhesion to a variety of substrates – Essential for complex detailing and transitions
- BBA certified – Providing assurance of long-term reliability
The ability to colour match the Liquiflex Pro system to the required RAL specification ensured that visual consistency and design aesthetics were maintained, even in such a functional and technical setting.
Result: High-Performance Waterproofing in One of the World’s Toughest Climates
Liquiflex Pro delivered a seamless, durable, and long-lasting waterproof barrier across the station’s most intricate and exposed areas. Its performance in this extreme environment is a testament to the quality and versatility of the system. Rubberseal also provided ongoing technical support and logistical coordination to ensure smooth delivery and implementation, despite the significant challenges of the location.
When Only the Best Will Do
This project illustrates Rubberseal’s ability to support high-performance waterproofing solutions in even the most specialist and remote environments. Our work with BAM Nuttall on the British Antarctic Research Station showcases not only the reliability of Liquiflex Pro, but also our commitment to precision, collaboration, and technical excellence.
If Liquiflex Pro performs in Antarctica—you can trust it anywhere.
